Fallout 3 Vault 101, Jewel of the Wastes. For 200 years, Vault 101 has faithfully served the surviving residents of Washington DC and its environs, now known as the Capital Wasteland. Though the global atomic war of 2077 left the US all but destroyed, the residents of Vault 101 enjoy a life free from the constant stress of the outside world. Giant Insects, Raiders, Slavers, and yes, even Super Mutants are all no match for superior Vault-Tec® engineering. Yet one fateful morning, you awake to find that your father has defied the Overseer and left the comfort and security afforded by Vault 101 for reasons unknown. Leaving the only home you've ever known, you emerge from the Vault into the harsh Wasteland sun to search for your father, and the truth.

The third game in the Fallout series, Fallout 3 is a singleplayer action role-playing game (RPG) set in a post-apocalyptic Washington DC. Combining the horrific insanity of the Cold War era theory of mutually assured destruction gone terribly wrong, with the kitschy naivety of American 1950s nuclear propaganda, Fallout 3 will satisfy both players familiar with the popular first two games in its series as well as those coming to the franchise for the first time.

Great game, but if you have the choice, go with the Game of the Year Edition. You'll want the expansions, and they cost $9.99 a pop to download. For a few bucks more you get all you need.

Truly a masterpiece.
What can I say? As an RPG fan, I spent 70 hours on FF7 back in the day, until there was nothing else to do but beat the Emerald weapon. Once that was done I was disappointed it was over.

This is the game that keeps on giving. I've been on it over 150 hours and still haven't done everything there is to do. I have two of the expansion packs by the way.

It's a gritty, dirty looking game with pretty nice graphics, if that makes any sense. It's totally addicting in my opinion and I've spent 12 hours on it in a day before.

For me to write a huge review about all the things I love about this game would be far to time consuming to write and read. For me to list just some of the things I like about it would be a crime. If you like expansive, epic RPGs, travelling along a map freely, and doing missions as you please... You will love it too.

It's a must, must, must buy. Best game I ever played.
One of the best games ever BUT.......2010-08-275 / 5
This truly is one of the best games i have ever played. i love the adventure, the huge space with no restrictions, and especially the guns you can find. BUT i have windows 7 on my laptop and this game was made before windows 7 came out. Therefore this game IS NOT COMPATABLE WITH WINDOWS 7. ive been told there might be a patch to download to make it work but i havent found it. and i KNOW it will work on windows 7 but i havent found anything after a few days research. so make sure you have Vista or XP before you purchase this game.
Great Game !!!!2010-08-265 / 5
Every once in a while a game comes along that sets itselfapart from the rest. Fallout3 is that game. I have played through this once ( Intial release ) and nearly twice on the PS3 ( am near the end in the Game of the Year Edition ). I also have the PC version of the DOTY installed in one of my Desktops ( the one with XP ). There is a high replay value for sure and it seems like I find stuff I missed the first time through. The Game of the Year is the best of the best although some added material is better than others. Operation Anchorage was fun, although pretty linear as was Mothership Zeta, but both were fun. One thing, look at the specs closely and take them to heart. When it says Core2Duo, it means Core2Duo ( or Pentium D ). It will not play on an Intel Quad Core unless you first go into Dual Core mode. It will play on an AMD Quad though, from all reports I've seen. I tried in Vista on this machine ( Dual Booting w/ Windows 7 ) running an Intel Core i7 920. Installed fine, didn't play. I installed it on my Dual Core machine running XP. This is not just with Fallout 3, but with all Bethesda titles, or so it seems. It could be due to the way the games from Bethesda are threaded, or the lack of threading. That will make a difference as to which processor they will or will not play on. If the processor does not support HT, then you should be fine as long as it isn't an Intel Quad Core. Although the game is bleak, it is a beautifully rendered bleak. In fact the rendering is some of the best I've seen, with the possible exception of The Witcher, which is in a league of it's own. Awaiting the next installment: Fallout: New Vegas.
