| I am a very handy guy and do a fair amount of repair work around the house and installing and building things, but the directions Kidco provides are HORRIBLE. Fortunatley, I had all the necessary tools to install this gate. The gate, once installed, is very good. I would give the gate itself a 4.5 star, but the directions a 0 star. In fact, one of the letters identifiying a specific type of screw was WRONG. I'm just glad I'm handy enough to figure out which parts needed to go where. Now that I know what I'm doing, I'll order another one, but this job should have taken 45 minutes at most and it took a couple hours. KIDCO, improve your diagrams and instructions!!! The lady on the box carrying her baby up the stairs is so happy because she hired it done. There's no hubby to be seen because he's downstairs with a Jack 'n Coke after wrangling with this thing for hours. Good luck. |
| Used for an elderly person. | 2009-12-19 | 5 / 5 |

| Needed something to keep an elderly person away from the stairs. A great deterrent. She's 94 and of small stature. I mounted it high so the dogs could get underneath, but her wheelchair would not go through. The directions need to be read carefully and patiently, but not impossible. |

| We purchased this gate after returning the Evenflo Secure Step metal gate, a gate which does not safely and reliably stay shut. The Kidco gate is fantastic. It may take longer to install, but the extra time means a more solid and secure gate. We also had to install a gate at a slight angle at the top of our stairs. It wasn't a problem with the Kidco Angle-Mount Gate, but any other gate wouldn't have worked. I strongly recommend this gate for everyone. I wish I would have figured this out before drilling holes in my walls for the awful Evenflo. |
| It works well and gets the job done | 2009-10-28 | 4 / 5 |

| Like I said, it works well and gets the job done. We originaly bought a different gate for the top of the stairs but it turns out our studds don't line up so it wouldn't work. I figured this would. We actually don't really use the angle part, but I don't know if any other gate would have worked. At first I thought the locking part seemed chinsey, but it works and hasn't broken yet. I feel that you do have to close it carefully. I don't love how big (long) it is in our hallway, you have to really work around it when you come up the stairs and need to go into the baby's room. But its really not the gate, just how wide the doorway is at the top and so the gate is pulled very wide to fit. Not its fault just the figuration of our stairs/hallway. All in all it is good. Definetly great if you have to use it on an angle. |

In fairness, I needed to add a banister mount and a hollow wall mount, but all told, the process took more than 5 hours. I can't imagine doing that with a kid around (not due yet). Some of that may have been me (I'll admit I lost one butterfly toggle behind the wall and needed to get another), but the directions on the actual gate are ridiculously bad.
However - it's the only one on the market with an angle mount from what I saw and researched. Once the project is complete, it does exactly what I needed it to do.
Given the purchase price of the gate, banister mount and hollow wall mount, as well as the time to put it together, I may suggest others actually looking into someone making a gate to order. It can't be that much more expensive and a lot less frustration. |
